A Gautham Menon (Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein) movie, music by A.R Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar, now that's what I call an exciting combination.
While the movie didn't do too well, Rehna hai terre dil mein will always be remembered for its brilliant album. Although this time round the music in charge is A.R Rahman instead of Harris Jayraj (RHTDM, Force).
Well the album has a total of 12 tracks, which can be categorized as slow romantic melodies (at least a majority of them).
I will be talking about the tracks that I feel are worth talking about (cannot go through all 12 tracks :| ).
Kya Hai Mohabbat (sung by A.R Rahman himself) is a slow melody with a very 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na- Title track' kind of feel. The track is alright to listen to but I feel that visuals could be a huge add on for the track.
Ok this might sound weird but the next song 'Dost Hai' has a very similar sound to Fort Minor songs, a verse that is rapped and a melodious chorus that is sung. I think only A.R Rahman could attempt something so different and do it well. All in all a song that might just find its audience. Personally I'm excited to see how its going to be shot.
Hosanna is my personal favorite track from the album. Good composition, very well sung by Leon D'Souza (new voice) and 'worth listening to' lyrics. An atypical A.R Rahman romantic composition that has a youthful sound to it. I feel like this one could have a good shelf life, if it is presented well to the audiences.
Sunlo Zara is another product of the successful A.R Rahman - Rashid Ali combo, the song is a peppy number that is easy on the ears and is probably one of the decent tracks from the album.
I am a little confused about the track 'Zohra-Jabeen', a very soft dreamy number that is sung beautifully by Javed Ali, because it might or might not grow on people, once again I think everything greatly depends on how it is presented in the movie.
Aromale, Pholon Jaise, Sharminda Hoon, Jesse's Driving me crazy are strictly OK tracks, definitely not what we expect from A.R Rahman but then again before I saw Rockstar I had felt that a couple of songs were mediocre, until I saw the movie and realized their importance and worth.
Out of the 12 tracks my picks are Hosanna, Dost Hai, Sunlo Zara & Zohra-Jabeen.
I have a feeling that this album is going to appeal more once the tracks are put into context (through the movie).
I'm going with a 3 out of 5 stars for the music of Ekk Deewana Tha.
